You know the phrase “Don’t judge a book by it’s cover” well this anime is an example of that because I began watching Seitokai Yakuindomo thinking it would be a generic shounen school anime but what I got was something incredibly very different, Seitokai Yakuindomo is one of the most perverted, inappropriately funny and enjoyable animes (if you like that sort of thing) I have ever seen and it is amazing because it had me laughing out loud every few minutes so on to the review.
Seitokai Yakuindomo is a 13-episode, two season anime adaption of the manga of the same name that began as a four-panel comic strip written and illustrated by Tozen Ujiie and the story is about a high school student named Takatoshi Tsuda who attends Ōsai Academy, a high school that due to declining birth rates, is converted from an all-girl school to a co-ed school due to it being close to his home and on his first day he is recruited against his will into the student council as the vice-president and sole male representative.
Now you might be wondering why I said this show was the “most perverted, inappropriately funny and enjoyable animes I have ever seen”, well you see boys and girls, Shino and Aria are extremely perverted along with most of the other girls in the school (with the exception of Hagimura) and regularly make perverted comments and sexual innuendos and it is usually Takatoshi who tries to keep their perverted humor under control while being the subject of their antics although failing most of the time.
That’s right, Seitokai Yakuindomo is a anime where the female characters are the perverted ones and the male lead is the normal one and that is why I found it really refreshing and incredibly funny because I really don’t see that often and let me tell you something, the female characters in this show makes Issei from Highschool DxD look like a saint.
In a show about high school girls, Seitokai Yakuindomo has almost constant jokes and references to things like sex, sex toys, incest, boobs, panties and literally everything dirty you can honestly think of to the extent that you would think this would be ecchi when it is actually a comedy/slice of life title with a very “unique” sense of humor and it works for some reason although I have absolutely no idea what it is and how.
The characters are all quirky and unique in their own ways with my favorite character being Shino because she is almost always thinking perverted things and making inappropriate comments about or towards Tsuda.
However she isn’t all sex jokes because she does have a soft side and gets embarrassed whenever Takatoshi says anything that could be interpreted as being romantic and occasionally performs couple-like activities with him such as walking with him, sharing an umbrella and so on even though she said that one of her original reasons she showed an interest in Takatoshi was so that she could observe him because she can only learn so much in health classes.
Aria is the most physically mature one out of the group but she too has a strongly perverted mind like Shino and has a habit of twisting every word and thought into something sexual no matter how innocent and then there is Suzu Hagimura who is pretty much the normal one of the group except she bursts into a Edward Elric style rage when someone mentions her height and like Tsuda she tries to keep the girls in line.
Seitokai Yakuindomo has some incredibly funny moments like the above clip and yes Suzu can speak English, she can also swear in English and it is beyond funny when she snaps so check out the clip above if you would like a small teaser of Seitokai Yakuindomo.
There isn’t really much I can say about the plot of Seitokai Yakuindomo because it is a very loose one, the show is basically about the student council’s exploits throughout their time at Ōsai Academy until they graduate it is however quite enjoyable to see what happens to them but my only wish is that it would have a bit more depth to it .
I guess sometimes you don’t need a overly complex and deep story to enjoy something especially when you are laughing your behind off every few minutes at the numerous obscene and incredibly lewd things Shino, Aria and the many other female characters say throughout the show.
Plot, characters and humor aside, Seitokai Yakuindomo has a good clean art style that doesn’t change anything from the manga although the character designs are alot sharper and improved in the second season which is a good thing in my book because quality matters to me.
The voice acting is pretty good in Seitokai Yakuindomo and the voice actors do a great job delivering their lines especially Yōko Hikasa who voices Shino and if you are wondering where you have heard that name before, Yōko also is the voice of Rias Gremory in Highschool DxD so her voice should sound familiar to anyone who has seen that series.
As far as I am aware Seitokai Yakuindomo is subbed only and honestly I am quite happy it is because it would be extremely difficult to explain to relatives “this anime is about perverted highschool girls and the best points are sex jokes and lewd humor” because I assure you it won’t go down well at least in my case anyway.
As I have stated at the beginning of this review, Seitokai Yakuindomo has two seasons with 13 episodes each but there are a tonne of full episode length OVAs that are just as funny if not more and you can easily binge watch a season over a weekend or two which is what I did because I have half a dozen anime shows to watch on my list of “animes to watch” on my desktop.
So should you watch Seitokai Yakuindomo, well if you hate sex jokes or anything of that nature and are easily offended then you probably won’t enjoy Seitokai Yakuindomo as that is the source of it’s humor but if you do like shows with that sense of humor than you should probably give this show a show.
I would of put alot more detail in this review but there wasn’t really much I could put considering the plot is somewhat basic, I have already gave my opinion on the cast of characters and what I personally enjoyed about the show so I guess that does it from me and this review, if you like this review then please like, share and comment down below.
